Now I can't edit contact and add new contact to outlook.com account on my Android phone.

I found another work around that you can try too.  It's quite simple, really.  Here's how to do it:

1. Uninstall the Hotmail or Outlook.com app, as applicable.
2. Follow the instructions on how to set up an Exchange account on your device provided here:

Basically you'll be setting up your Outlook.com account as a system level account (just like gmail is), which will unlock 2-way sync capabilities between the stock Android apps (email, contacts and calendar) and Outlook.com.

In summary, it's the Outlook/Hotmail apps that are getting in the way.  If you configure your account this way, 2-way sync is enabled between the stock apps and Outlook.com.  You don't need Microsoft's app or any other 3rd party app for this to work.

I've had success on both Gingerbread and Jelly Bean using "snt-m.hotmail.com" as my server.  Note that you need to make sure the syntax for your domain includes your full email address. For example: "\*** Email address is removed for privacy ***."  Android will try to use "\username" by default.  It won't work.  You need to manually configure it.  To do so, interrupt the configuration process (i.e. press "cancel") when it tries to connect and revise the domain as noted above. You'll be good to go.

This does work with the built in Android eMail, contacts and calendar. However I have 6 different emails that forward to Outlook.com and then are filtered into a folder for each one. So when a new message shows up and gets filtered, but you never get an alert.. anyone know how to modify this?

Welcome to Microsoft Community forum.  It seems that you are having issues on getting alerts when an email was filtered into a folder. Is this correct?

For clarification, are you using the Outlook.com app or your phone's default mail app when accessing your account? If it's the latter, please contact your mobile manufacturer for the notification settings.

If you're using Outlook.com app, we regret to inform that setting up notification for emails that were filtered in your custom folders using the Outlook.com app is not possible.

Should you have other queries or clarifications, feel free to post back in this thread and we will attend to that concern.

Thanks for the reply Levi_I, I am using the Outlook.com app not the built in app on my Nexus 4. Love the way it works, but am a bit sad that in order to keep my emails in some kind of cohesive order on the phone, I do need to filter them into their own folder. I hate to go back to the built in or K9 since they fail to show the whole message like the Outlook app does.  So its always a trade off.. lol

I think the other apps let you set up an account in the app it self, where as in Outlook you need to forward to the Outlook address..

Might consider a small change in the future for the app.
