Question for the Forum Moderator:  How did this response (i.e. the one that I replied to) get flagged as the "Answer" and who "Found this helpful?"  You did not provide a solution.  Rather, you asked questions and were never heard from again.  Please unflag this post as being the answer, because it's not. 

This confirms my suspicions about answers.microsoft.com: I believe that some (not all) moderators are more interested in hyping their credentials by having their responses flagged as the "Answer" than they are with providing real solutions/support.   They swoop in shortly after a question has been asked, ask a few questions themselves, then ride off into the sunset without following up, let alone providing a solution.  This thread is clear evidence of that and it's not hard to find other examples.

I can't help but to think that this type of behavior is a byproduct of the "look at me culture" that's been created by social media on the internet.  Lots of flash and hype, with very little substance.  If I'm wrong, then this particular moderator would have followed up and attempted to answer the question.  But he did not.  He got his props and moved on, even as the discussion raged on.  That's not moderation and it's certainly not support.  Who's moderating the moderators?  Anyone?

It's a shame that Microsoft chose a quasi social media platform to host its help forums.  It's often ineffective and I'm certain that it's a big turn off to a lot of users, especially those who rely on Microsoft software to help them derive their livelihoods.  Microsoft really needs to rethink this.

I don't think you quite understand the OP's problem. It's not just about editing or updating contacts and more importantly it's not about doing it in the outlook.com app. The problem is that if you have all your contacts on outlook.com, you can't manage them at all on android. You cannot go into contacts in Android and create a contact and select that it is for outlook.com and neither can you edit it. This is a showstopper as you can use Android's default mail app to connect to outlook.com and more so, once that account is created you can just go into contacts on Android and add/edit contacts straightaway. All my contacts are on outlook.com and if outlook.com prevents me from creating or editing contacts from Androids native contacts area, that is a big issue. I will probably go back to using the Android app if there isnt a fix for this.

We apologize if it took some time for us to update you on this. We have confirmed with our Product Group that this is by design. Contacts are unable to be modified via the Outlook.com App. As a work-a-round, you could add the account via Exchange ActiveSync using m.hotmail.com and synchronized the contacts that way as they are able to be modified in this manner.
