Now I can't edit contact and add new contact to outlook.com account on my Android phone.

As of April 7, 2016, the Microsoft Outlook will not let me edit contacts I have on my Samsung S6 with Marshmallow OS that appear to be copied over from my existing email account (msn.com).

I use Sony Xperia Z3+ with Android 5.02. The above advice won't help. I keep getting the "Unable to edit read-only contacts"

All in all I am very disappointed with Microsoft's pseudo-support and advice that do not offer real help but just intimidate people and insult everyone's intellect giving an impression that the fault is in the user who is just too stupid.

Now I have to use Sony's app that transfers my contacts from the old Windows Phone to the Sony. Guess what cloud service I am going to use then?

Right, Google of course. This way Microsoft is only losing users who could be valuable also to them. Ironically, they are losing them to the worst enemy, Google.

I would have expected Microsoft to learn something from being so arrogant with the Windows phones. But no, the old legacy lives on. However, the days of Microsoft being the only relevant provider of services and software are gone forever.

There is a lot of good in MS products, and that is why I keep hoping the attitude to change. Were it otherwise, I could not care less.

I've posted about this before. Download the free app "Edit contact" and you can then edit Outlook contacts on your phone and they will synchronise with Outlook everywehere else. That said, I had trouble with the updated Outlook app and now use Nine which works much better and is incredibly easy to set up. Might cost a few dollars but worth every penny for the time and hassle saved. But you'll still need "Edit contact" I think for it to synchronise contacts.

The premises of the original question is valid because adding/editing contacts on an Android phone ISN'T SUPPORTED, at least not at this time.  Based on my experience, here's what you can/can't do with your Outlook.com account on an Android device:

• Receive/Read/Compose/Send/Forward Email - yes (Hotmail or Outlook.com app preferred)
• View Contacts* - yes
• Edit Contacts* - no
• Add Contacts* - no
• View Appointments* - yes
• Edit Appointments* - yes
• Add Appointments* - yes

I've tested this with both Gingerbread and Jelly Bean using the Outlook.com app with auto synchronizing enabled for the account.  Actions denoted with an asterisk ("*") were tested using the native Android contact and calendar apps, as applicable.

The question is: when will Microsoft enable two-way synchronization between Android and Outlook.com's "People" module?  Since two-way synchronization is already available for email and calendar functions, it's either an oversight or limitation imposed by Microsoft.  If the intent is to provide a genuine alternative to Google, then this is going to be a big issue for most converts who want to use the new Outlook.com.

Thank you for your response; I have a similar question.  I have added outlook on my Samsung S6 Edge - and when i receive an email in outlook, if i want to add the sender, or any of the people cc'd / bcc'd to my contacts, there doesnt seem to be an easy way to do so. One normally in other outlook/email platforms simply taps on the email address of the sender (or cc/bcc 'd) and an option comes up to add them to contacts.  Is there nothing similar for outlook for Samsung S6 Edge (Android) ?  Thank you very much

• How are you trying to add/edit your contacts? Provide us the detailed steps.
• Are you using Outlook/Hotmail app?
• Do you receive any error message? If you do, please specify.
• Have you tried reconfiguring your account?
• What is your impacted email account?
