Using outlook for Mac 2011 on exchange.  Several note that they are constantly being asked formtheir password when it is stored in keychain.  Outlook will not except the password, even though it is correct.  Web mail is fine and virtual machine in windows with outlook 2010 is fine.  Office is updated to latest version.  I have been getting complaints at an average of 2 new a day.  Help please!

not sure why this solution is not being spread around more. But to fix this issue, what you have to do it add a "" before your username. for example:

Username: \domain\username

Password: whatever your password is

Make sure you save to your keychain after. This has worked for me. I'm not sure where I found this, but it was a lifesaver. Hope it helps for you!

The suggestion by Vladimir was about certificates.

I’ve seen this problem numerous times with corrupted Keychain entries.

Outlook stores the password in the Keychain. Launch the /Applications/Utilities/Keychain Access and look for the corresponding entry.

The easiest from there is to delete it (which will allow Outlook to recreate a clean new one next time).

You can also run the Keychain First Aid command from within the application to try and correct any other issue your keychain might have.

Yeah, Keychain corruptions occur once in a blue moon and that's the only way out of the problem.

I've been having this trouble for the last 6 days. The problem seems to stump MSFT support. We've gone back and forth on a number of attempts to fix the issue. I will list all the things we have tried including the remarkably low-tech final step that seems to have worked.

    • Obviously ensure updated to latest version (Outlook / Help / Check for latest updates)
    • Delete account from Outlook that is having the problem (Outlook / Tools / Accounts / Minus sign at lower left)
    • Remove the history of passwords from Apple's Keychain (Finder / Applications / Utilities / Keychain Access - search for entries with "exchange" and delete)
    • Add new account (bring back the one you just removed) (Outlook / Tools / Accounts / Plus sign at lower left)

Now here is what we did last that seems to be working:

    • Go to the online portal for Exchange.
    • Create a NEW password for the effected account (Gear symbol in the upper right corner of the page / Office 365 Settings / Password).
    • Go back to Outlook to manually enter a password for the account (Outlook / Tools / Accounts - select the effected account). You should have a window with a space to enter the password.
    • Enter a WRONG password... make up anything.
    • Close that Accounts window
    • Go back to Outlook and wait for it to give you that dreaded pop-up message asking for your password.
    • Click YES and enter the new password you just created in the portal.

The above worked for me... I'm not technical so I don't know implications of what I'm sharing... follow at your own risk.

    ** UPDATE **

As it turns out, this did not solve the problem for me. But because it was a step MSFT support thought worth trying I'll leave this up for others in case it works for you...

LISTEN UP! I have spent 7 months trying to figure this out and have FINALLY DID IT!

Open Outlook, go to Tools, go to Accounts, choose the AT&T email account, click the Advanced tab at bottom right, now UNCHECK "Sync all IMAP folders".

Quit Outlook and then restart. PROBLEM SOLVED!

The problem is that the sync function keeps hitting the AT&T servers causing the password error.
