How do I add a contact to an existing Group in this new Outlook??

I've tried and tried.  The only thing I can do with a group is add, delete, or change its name.  I want to add more contacts.  Was very easy the old hotmail way.

Hi Radio Flyer,

Update May, 2013: We've released some changes this month on how you navigate around the People page. These changes were made to make it more consistent with how your contacts are presented. The Groups' dropdown menu have been removed and Groups have been integrated to your contacts list. Please see screenshot below which I hope clears some of the changes up for you.

NOTE: You can also search for your group by typing the group name in the search box just like searching for a contact.

The next screenshots shows how you can add a group member

After clicking save the screen refreshes and you should see the new member on the right pane.

Hi Jean H.,

I will be glad to assist you with your concern. If you don't want to have your facebook contacts on your Outlook.com account,  you can follow the steps below on how to disable the option.

  1. Log in on your account.
  2. Hover your mouse to the Gear Icon on the top right corner beside your name.
  3. Select Mail more settings.
  4. Under Reading email, select Content from third-party networks.
  5. Under Showing public content, select Don't show public content from third-party networks.
  6. Save

Francesca,  To add a contact:-

go to people, enter group name, select group but leave the check box blank, click Edit

type contact's name in box select from list that appears and save.  Hope this helps

    My post of May31st . See #3 for my workaround. Thus far I have used this workaround every time I use a group, I rename Q.NN.original name, and where I am changing contacts to groups, I use the nickname. Again, not neat - fairly ugly, but the best I can think of.

     1. Mange group functionality has existed for 10+ years in the Hotmail environment and was actually enhanced when I was migrated to outlook.com earlier in May.

    1. Anyone who makes extensive use of groups (I have ~50) uses the specific features that existed until midway through this month.
    2. My workaround is to a) rename all groups to begin Q.NN where NN is a number and b) use the nickname attribute of contact to store the NN's. It is is painful. However it is the only way I have been able to determine which groups a contact is in ( I have some contacts in 10 groups).
    3. The manage group features in Hotmail et al exist in other mail providers. Far from being ahead of the curve, you are now behind it.
    4. With 35 years in IT - retiring at Director level, I have worked with many software houses. I know of none that have removed such functionality without warning or without a possible migration path. Customer feedback is generally around adding functionality
    • not taking it away.
    1. I commented that the way groups and contacts have been so absorbed could only be by firing your Data Architects - perhaps that was too harsh - they must have been sedated.
    2. Whilst some resist change, many recognise its necessity. It is a phenomenal achievement that additional functionality can be broad on-board to millions of users time after time. This only works of course when applications are intuitive and there is a strong/exact logical data model underpinning the application. This latest 'enhancement' has blown that all away.
    3. (and finally) I hope the comments are regarded as objective - that is what they are intended to be.
