Exchange ActiveSync won't sync contacts on Android

Hi,

I've been having a problem with Exchange ActiveSync on my Android phone. Calendar and E-mails sync fine without any problems. However, my contacts won't sync properly. My contacts sync the first time I set up my account on my phone using Exchange ActiveSync but afterwards if I make any changes or add new contacts on my phone then it won't sync to Outlook.com. The same situation arises if I modify or create a new contact on the web at Outlook.com; I don't see these changes being synced to my phone. 2-way syncing is not working for my contacts.

I have removed and re-added my Outlook account on my phone multiple times but the problem persists. I am using a Nexus 4, running the latest version of Android Jelly Bean 4.2.1

Can you please fix this?? It is extremely annoying and inconvenient. I don't want to use the Hotmail or Outlook apps since they are very limited in functionality and a big battery drain on the phone.

Thanks.

Yesterday I set up a new installation of CyanogenMod in my OnePlus One and as usual, I configured my Outlook.com account as Exchange but my contacts and calendar are not synching, only email is working. In Settings - Account on the phone I can see exclamation marks in Contacts and Calendar and the error at the bottom that says "Sync is currently experiencing problems" just like you.

I normally use m.hotmail.com as the server but I have also tried s.outlook.com without any luck.

I don't know is that message is being displayed by Android, Google or Microsoft. It's been more than 24 hrs and I don't have any contacts or calendar entries on the phone.

In status.live.com there was a problem in 4/17 but the status if shown as fixed already. Is it possible that the problems is still persisting? I would appreciate any information.

    Hi,

I seem to be having this exact same problem. Other account sync fine, my work exchange email etc however my live account ******@live.com.au account refuses to sync contacts.

I have done hard resets and tried deleting and re-entering the account multiple times with no success.

Would it be possible to look at my account for this same resolution?

    Thanks.

Wait... are you telling us that I can't enter a contact in my android phone and have it sync to exchange (and therefore add to outlook)... and that this is by design?  Are you saying that microsoft intentionally designed this so that a mobile user cannot use their device to add contacts when they are ... wait for it.... mobile and then have the contact synced to exchange.  If this is true, it would be a stunning misunderstanding of how people use there phones.   Please confirm that you are saying exactly this or please advise how I can sync contacts added to my phone to exchange.

    Hi,

I can confirm that contacts do sync both ways. I actually just tested this.

The main issues with MS accounts on androids is due to Google not supporting the accounts as well as other devices do and not Microsoft. This is why MS made it so you can use exchange protocals for hotmail, outlook and live email addresses.

For android just do the following:

    Add email as exchange

    username is your full email

    password is your password

    server is m.hotmail.com

You now have full calendar and contact sync.

I don't work for MS but when I got my first android phone I had problems so happy to help if you still have questions.
