Exchange ActiveSync won't sync contacts on Android

Hi,

I've been having a problem with Exchange ActiveSync on my Android phone. Calendar and E-mails sync fine without any problems. However, my contacts won't sync properly. My contacts sync the first time I set up my account on my phone using Exchange ActiveSync but afterwards if I make any changes or add new contacts on my phone then it won't sync to Outlook.com. The same situation arises if I modify or create a new contact on the web at Outlook.com; I don't see these changes being synced to my phone. 2-way syncing is not working for my contacts.

I have removed and re-added my Outlook account on my phone multiple times but the problem persists. I am using a Nexus 4, running the latest version of Android Jelly Bean 4.2.1

Can you please fix this?? It is extremely annoying and inconvenient. I don't want to use the Hotmail or Outlook apps since they are very limited in functionality and a big battery drain on the phone.

    Thanks rstruempf for the response.  Yes, if you look above, I figured that out after my initial post.  However, that means if I had put the contact as an Exchange contact it will sync with Exchange...And then I guess from exchange it will sync to gmail?  Seems like one too many steps, since like calendar, many of the events "happen" on our phones and those syn fine back and forth as Google proeucts.  I don't get phone calls to my computer...LOL...

    Oh well, google's way to keep you capive in their ecosystem...can't blame them...they're good at what they do.

    Hi,

    Yes, Cesar E.  You're correct.  My point was the comment was made by your folks that ActiveSync for Exchange is a one directional sync - which really isn't true.  Activesync for Exchange bi-directional for calendar but not for contacts.  Seems odd...

    Do your calendar and email sync to both Google and Exchange from your phone?  Mine don't.  Email to my Google addresses remain separate, but I receive them in Outlook to my Exchange inbox, so my computer puts them all together.  My calendar's are separate, but they show together on my phone.  You can get a Google sync plug-in for Outlook that will keep them in sync whenever you run Outlook.  I tried it once, and it worked Great, but then my phone had dupes of everything so I turned it off and deleted them off Google.

    I'm sorry for the confusion. What my colleague Cesar posted is the correct one. Regarding your concern about the contacts that are not syncing to your account through Exchange ActiveSync, I believe it was already addressed by Andreo that if the contacts are added to your phone, it will never sync to your account and that is by design.

    I put my IT guys on this...I was going bonkers.  Yes.  Email and Calendar sync both ways and I have Exchange set up to receive my Exchange eamil account and my gmail accounts.  I have both Cloud Mail and Default Android mail set up on my phone.  Android default email's search capabilities are terrible but I sort of like the interface.  Cloud Mail search engine works great--- like Exchange Email.  I'm sure I'll eventually pick Cloud mail because of the search function....

    The calendar syncs both ways - those entries I put on Exchange's Calendar and those I put on my phone (using Android's default Calendar). 

    The IT guys researched the some of the sync apps you're talking about and they all said the same thing - duplicated the items, etc.  I've found as long as i put the contacts in the phone as ActiveSync accounts, they sync back and forth between Exchange and the phone fine.   

    Are you using ActiveSync on your phone for your Exchange account?
