Exchange ActiveSync won't sync contacts on Android

Hi,

I've been having a problem with Exchange ActiveSync on my Android phone. Calendar and E-mails sync fine without any problems. However, my contacts won't sync properly. My contacts sync the first time I set up my account on my phone using Exchange ActiveSync but afterwards if I make any changes or add new contacts on my phone then it won't sync to Outlook.com. The same situation arises if I modify or create a new contact on the web at Outlook.com; I don't see these changes being synced to my phone. 2-way syncing is not working for my contacts.

I have removed and re-added my Outlook account on my phone multiple times but the problem persists. I am using a Nexus 4, running the latest version of Android Jelly Bean 4.2.1

Can you please fix this?? It is extremely annoying and inconvenient. I don't want to use the Hotmail or Outlook apps since they are very limited in functionality and a big battery drain on the phone.

Thanks.

    Hi,

A lot of messages on this...Going to play the broken record...

I just switched from a BBerry (I know, it's September of 2014) as my primary device to a Samsung s5.

Like others, using ActiveSync between my MS Exchange account and my phone.  All functions sync with no problem except for contacts which sync fine FROM my Exchange account  to my phone but contacts added to phone are not syncing to Exchange.

    Please advise.  Thanks.

UPDATE:  I can sync contacts from phone to Exchange if I choose to put the contact in as a MS Exchange Active Sync contact.  If I put it in the phone as a Gmail contact, it will not sync back to Exchange.

    Hi,

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

I'm happy to help you with your concern about syncing contacts from your phone and your account.

Please be informed that it is by design that any contacts that you've added on your phone would not reflect on your Exchange Active Sync account but if you add a contact on your Exchange Active Sync account it will reflect on your phone, it is because adding contacts from an Exchange Active Sync account is only a one way connection.

If you want your contacts to appear on your phone as well, you would need to add them to your Exchange Active Sync account first.

Should you have any other questions or concerns, please let us know.

    Thank you,

I just tried and found that I could add them from my phone, but I have to change the type from Device to Exchange.  Otherwise it is just a local contact.

    Hello pwl1802,

For your concern about Calendar, the information of your account's calendar will sync to the phone's calendar and vice versa as it uses the Exchange Active Sync protocol to sync it.

If you have other inquiries regarding Outlook.com, please let us know. We'll be here to support you.

    Thank you.
