how do I add new contacts to the list in Outlook?

Thanks for your reply.

I just did what you said and sent a messge to a person not in my contact list and once the message was sent I was immediately in the "sent" mailbox and the message was there (and sent) but there was no prompt at the bottom of the page.

I am wondering if the prompt would come at some intermediate step before the message is stored in the sent mailbox and if I need to change some setting to make that happen.....? I looked but couldn't figure one out.

Do you know if there is a missing step to get the option you are talking about?

I agree don't know what's wrong with MS, I try to keep open mind on win 8 same there they screw up royally win 7 is still best REALLY don't understand what MS is thinking must takes billion to mess things up feel bad for Bill Gates money!!!!

I am facing the same issue that this user is reporting. I have no way to add someone that I just sent an email to or to add someone from whom I Just received an email, unless I go to People and add them from scratch! This process is very inconvenient, especially when I could just added them with a right click on Hotmail or in the desktop version of the Outlook.

I am using a laptop with the latest windows 8.1 OS and the latest IE version, whatever that is. I am doing my best to stay with MS products, but I agreed with one of the users in the forum that MS is taking away nice/convenient functions that people want and force-feeding functions or ways of doing things that are inconvenient and time-wasting! I don't understand why!

maybe i should stand on my head and type with my toes to add a contact instead of clicking a radio contact to add it
