Please tell me MS hasn't done what it has done about 100 times in the past (can a leopard change its spots?). MS LOOOOVES to take a completely useful function and, in the next update, delete it for no obvious reason just b/c THEY decide they no longer want it (or they are too lazy/miserly to spend the programming time to figure out how to make it work in the upgrade).

The issue is that MS ALWAYS deletes the functions that are absolutely essential and basic to whatever program it is they have created. To NOT be able to add a contact with a click after having just sent an email is beyond ludicrous. What is the point of ANY email program if you have to RETYPE the information you just had to type (or copy) in just moments before???? And that you have to add them INDIVIDUALLY with numerous clicks and wait time to do so is beyond ridiculous.

Name me one other email program where you have to do this--answer is none, b/c it is a basic element of an email program. Proving that, yes, MS ALWAYS deletes the functions that are absolutely essential and basic to whatever program it is they have created. There are SO many other examples than this. It happens EVERY time they upgrade Office, for example. Bar none. Basic, useful functions gone.

Last. That this function was in Hotmail and NOT in Outlook and we are forced, as MS always likes to force it's users, to switch to Outlook, just reinforces the obvious--that MS never has and likely never will care what its users need, they just want the users to take what they are given b/c by the time the switch is made the user is so invested in the product that the pain in switching is greater than the pain of losing an important function. I believe this must be in the MS business plan.

Answer: Never buy or opt in to a MS to begin with. Then you don't have to suffer the loss.

We’ve outlined some common “How-To’s” of People below.

Viewing the Contacts page on People:

    http://people.live.com

To access People from Outlook.com, hover the cursor over the Outlook logo in the top left and click on the down-arrow that appears to the right of the Outlook logo.

    Select People.

Returning to your Inbox from People:

Hover the cursor over the People logo and click on the down-arrow that appears on the right of the People logo. Select Mail.

You can also get to Calendar or Skydrive in the same manner.

    Filtering your list:

Above the search box at the top of the Contact list on the left, is a filter option which says "All ".

If you click on this you should see the groups you created in the past.

Click on any of these to filter your list to just the contacts in that group.

    Selecting one or many Contacts:

If you click on a contact name in the list, the details for that contact will appear on the right.

Alternatively, if you click on the check box to the left of the contact picture, you can build up a list of selected contacts on the right by clicking on the check box to the left of multiple contacts.

    Adding/Removing from Group membership:

Whether you select one or many contacts, you will see a top menu bar option for Groups.

If you click on this, then it will display the list of groups with a check box checked for each group that the contact(s) is/are a member of.

You can uncheck to remove or check to add, the selection of contact(s) to the chosen groups, and then click on Apply to apply the changes.

Your selected contacts will then be updated to be added or removed from the groups you chose as appropriate.

    Delete

When you select one or many contacts, you will see a top menu bar option for Delete.

If you click on Delete and click Delete in the confirmation box, the selected contacts will be deleted.

    Edit:

You can choose edit if you have clicked on a single contact (name or picture) in the list on the left to see their details on the right.

When viewing their details, click on Edit in the top menu bar to edit or add details.

By reading your post your question is about adding new contacts to your MAIN contact list, not your Group contat list.

    Is that right ?

If yes, please follow these simple steps..................

How to add new contacts to your main contact list :

To access your main contact list:

Open outlook.com > top left next to the logo Outlook, there is a down arrow > click the arrow > click People > All your contacts are now listed on the left. Scroll down to see each contact.

How to add new contacts :

In the same People window, toolbar at top, click New > enter the required info into the boxes > click Save when done.

To Edit your contact list :

Click at the contact's name ( NOT its check box ) > toolbar at top, click Edit.

    Note :

    1. Edit option will not appear until you have selected a contact.
    2. Edit option will not appear if you click at the contact's checkbox.

To delete a contact from the list :

Just click at the contact > toolbar at top, click Delete.

maybe i should stand on my head and type with my toes to add a contact instead of clicking a radio contact to add it
