Outlook for Mac Does Not Work on OS X 10.10 (Yosemite Public Beta)

I ran into similar issues after a Time Machine restore and as with this thread there were a lot of steps suggesting how to resolve this.  I don't have to connect to an Exchange server and as much as I liked Outlook on Windows, it was becoming too time consuming to fix on Mac.  I ported everything to Apple Mail and haven't looked back since.  I've adopted a simple principle that I should be using applications instead of wasting time fixing them.

With the release of OneNote for Mac, it would seem that Microsoft is taking applications for Mac more seriously which is a good thing.  As for Outlook, now that I've switched to Apple Mail I doubt that I'll be returning to it.

Mail is a bad product - I frequent the Apple Community Support forums and if there's one application that folks are going to have problems with, it's Apple's Mail. The problem with Outlook and Yosemite has been solved - by Apple - and you no longer have to jump through any hoops to get it up and running at this point.

I don't know what type you're having with Time Machine restores - that Office always asks for the activation key? That's true of a number of applications and, to my mind, is a great way to avoid pirating of the software.

Even if you do decide to give up Outlook - find something else to run other than Mail (Thunderbird, for example) - but there's no good reason that I can see to give up Outlook (and, yes, I run it both on OS X and Windows 7 Pro).

I see this thread needed on Oct 13. Today is Oct 21. I just downloaded Apple's final release version of Yosemite. And Outlook Main Window won't open (searching for solution brought me to this thread). From what I read above it seems that Beta 3 of Yosemite resolved the issue for users on tags thread. These users thereby suggested Apple had "fixed" the problem. Meanwhile another thread elsewhere on the web says taht running MS Office Updater 14.4.5 resolved the issue for them, and thereby pointed to MS as having been the ones who "fixed" the problem. Regardless, I've got the wide release of Yosemite installed, I ran MS Office Updater 14.4.5 (twice), I've rebooted, and I still have the missing Main Window problem. I'm stymied. MS Word, Excel and Powerpoint work fine. no issues. Only Outlook and the missing Main Window. Argh!!

I've no idea whatsoever why you're having the Main Window problem in Outlook using the release of Yosemite. My same problem was 'fixed' with Developer Release 6, far before the update to 14.4.5. You need to file a Bug Report with Apple (I really do think that they were to blame for the problem, as it was a known bug and when I filed a Bug Report, it was listed as a duplicate bug reported).

Try -> https://idmsa.apple.com/IDMSWebAuth/login.html?appIdKey=77e2a60d4bdfa6b7311c854a56505800be3c24e3a27a670098ff61b69fc5214b&sslEnabled=true&rv=3 - I THINK that you'll be able to use a standard Apple ID to access the page (although it's listed as being for developers).

I haven't heard of any having this problem with the release version of Yosemite and cannot offer any help. Maybe someone will come along shortly.
