How to delete a message that stays in the outbox after an error message while sending?

I tried to send an email message but got an error because the address of one of the recipients was not correct. The message has not been sent, and next to my outbox I see the figure 1, so it's probably still in there. But when I click the outbox, I do not see any message in the messages list. And it's not blocking the sending of any new messages.

I already tried Working Offline, but this seems only to work on Windows PC's, not with Outlook 2011. What to do?

Try this:

Open the AppleScript Editor found in /Applications/Utilities. Paste in the following three lines:

tell application "Microsoft Outlook"

delete every message of outbox

end tell

Click the Run button at the top and this should delete every message in your Outbox.

Hope this helps!

This looks strange... are you sure you have an unsent message in Outbox?

Try the following script:

tell application "Microsoft Outlook"

repeat with msg from 1 to number of messages in outbox

tell message msg of outbox

set str to "Message " & msg & " with subject '" & subject & "' is in outbox"

display dialog str

end tell

end repeat

end tell

Cheers,

Filipe

There is no actual message in the outbox to drag anywhere. The heading of the outbox has a 1 next to it indicating there is one there and it tries sending it, but in the column that shows the emails that are in the outbox folder, there are no emails. That doesn't sound like it leaves me with much choice.

    1. Put Outlook into Work Offline under Outlook in the Menu bar and see if you can drag the message to Drafts. This worked for some users.
    2. If you can quit Outlook, hold down the Shift key when logging in. This disables schedules. You should be able to delete the message or drag it to drafts to delete.
    3. If you can export all data you can start over in a new Identity.

    4)  Others tried rebuild and even that failed. Another user reported this as a fix:

<quote>We unplugged her from the network and she was then able to delete the file from her "Outbox".

     </quote>

Last resort is to try the Hail Mary (step 3) Troubleshoot Outlook (how to rebuild and repair)

    Hope this helps!
