Authentication failed error on Outlook application on Android device

I am experiencing this same issue of the Outlook application on my Samsung Galaxy (Model SGH-T959V, Firmware Version 2.2.1).  I first encountered the issue when I updated my Hotmail application a couple of weeks ago.  That Hotmail update then provides no other option than to Upgrade to Outlook.  After installing the Outlook application, I sign in using my hotmail email and password.  The next step asks if I will "let this app access your info" at which point I press the Yes button.  Soon after that, I receive a message that "Authentification failed; Authentication was not successful" with a button to "Try Again."  I have tried again multiple times.  I have also tried uninstalling and reinstalling the Outlook application numerous times for the past two weeks and I run into the same result.

Please fix this issue soon or reinstate the previous version of Hotmail in the Play Store since the Hotmail application was working just fine.

I appreciate your time.

Peace be with you.

Sincerely,

    Hi HumpheryAngus,

Welcome to Microsoft Community forum. It seems that you are also receiving the same authentication error when using the Outlook.com app.

For us to provide an accurate resolution on your concern, please help us clarify things first by providing the needed information for the following questions:

    • Have you already tried reinstalling the Outlook.com app and reconfiguring your account on your phone? If not, please do so as there might be some corrupted files or components that are causing the problem to happen. Here is the linkfor the guide.
    • Does issue also occurs when you sign in to your account on your phone's default mail app?
    • Does issue also occurs on another account on your phone?
    • Can you access your account via web?
    • What is your mobile device name, type and its OS?
    • What is your affected email address? ( Please provide it on the private message I've created. Make sure that you're signed in here to view the message.)

We look forward to your reply.

    Thank you.

I'm getting the same problem. You would think one of the largest software companies in the world would be able to make an app that actually works on one of the largest platforms in the world .Must be too much to ask I guess. 'logging in' must be really difficult stuff to program.

    Hi Ally147,

Thank you for posting your question here in Microsoft Community. We are glad to assist you with your concern about not being able to access your account using the Outlook.com app on your mobile device.

In addition, you also mentioned that you are also not able to access your account using the native email app on your mobile device. Can you confirm if you the same issue would persist when you access your account using a computer?

In the meantime, we recommend that you download the latest version of Outlook.com app as other users reported that it resolved their issue.

If you have further questions, please do not hesitate to post back.

    Regards,

    Johayber T.

    Hi,

my phone advised me that there was an update available, which i downloaded, after which the outlook app worked straight away.

i assumed Microsoft came up with a fix, for which i am very grateful.

    Thank you

    Mike.

Cool thanks! I will give Outlook another try then.

I use Hotmail now Outlook, Google, Yahoo and even AOL mails for certain things and I really don't want to combine any of them. So having Outlook work properly on all my devices would be awesome.
