Can't save Outlook messages to file. 'Save as' is greyed out.

I am using Office for mac 2011 under OS X version 10.7.2.

I cannot 'save' or' save as' Outlook email messages or attachments. PowerPoint, Excel and Word documents save normally. In Outlook "Save as" is permanently greyed out and cannot be selected. Save is not greyed out but does not react to instructions.

Any idea what the problem is and how to fix it.

I bought the software in November on line and this problem has existed for about a month.

Unfortunately, this is not an option in Outlook 2011.

If this is a feature you’d like to see in future versions of Office for Mac, be sure to send your feedback by clicking “Help” > “Send Feedback…” in any Office application or by clicking on the link below:

As a workaround, if you want to save the emails, you may simply drag the email from the Outlook window to the desktop or any other location. That will save the complete email itself.

I have the same problem and concern! I find this issue unbeleivable. I moved from windows to mac to find this office issue unacceptale!

This has to be corrected at once.

How can we manage the emails we receive in order to have them properly filed?

I can not beleive tha Microsoft could be so irresponsile in such basic issue

You've found this thread because your expectations for Office for Mac aren't met and you're looking for a solution. The answer is that Office for Mac is not equal to Office for Windows. That's it. Years of history will show you it has never been equal.

You can't hold Microsoft accountable for anything other than to not buy the product. If you've recently purchased the product you are definitely entitled to a refund. You have to ask for it.

Whether you like the answer or not, Corentin is correct. The Save As feature was designed with a specific purpose. It's not the purpose you expect.

It's not that we (contributors to these forums) aren't understanding you. We do and we even agree with your points. You're just venting about something we've known for years.

In addition you have to understand that this is a peer (us) support forum.

MS doesn't directly answer any of the posts here so don't hold your breath on an official statement.

It is absolutely true though that Outlook for Mac is more limited than Outlook for Windows.

It's also true that drag and drop is not a super efficient option to export e-mails for archiving etc purposes. I don't use that myself: I use third party apps that do a very good job at extracting e-mails from Outlook to place them in their own databases (Eagle Filer, EAX…).

We can't do a thing about it beside trying to help out and provide a solution to the problems posted here when we know of one…

Ok, let's not make excuses for weak planning. Feature lists are a plan when implemented and advertised. Otherwise they are just wishes. We all (HUMANS) have those.
