Can't save Outlook messages to file. 'Save as' is greyed out.

I am using Office for mac 2011 under OS X version 10.7.2.

I cannot 'save' or' save as' Outlook email messages or attachments. PowerPoint, Excel and Word documents save normally. In Outlook "Save as" is permanently greyed out and cannot be selected. Save is not greyed out but does not react to instructions.

Any idea what the problem is and how to fix it.

I bought the software in November on line and this problem has existed for about a month.

Unfortunately, this is not an option in Outlook 2011.

If this is a feature you’d like to see in future versions of Office for Mac, be sure to send your feedback by clicking “Help” > “Send Feedback…” in any Office application or by clicking on the link below:

As a workaround, if you want to save the emails, you may simply drag the email from the Outlook window to the desktop or any other location. That will save the complete email itself.

I have the same problem and concern! I find this issue unbeleivable. I moved from windows to mac to find this office issue unacceptale!

This has to be corrected at once.

How can we manage the emails we receive in order to have them properly filed?

I can not beleive tha Microsoft could be so irresponsile in such basic issue

    Version 14.7.3 is very out of date. Install updates, test again, and then please reply to the forum.

    Ensure your Mac and Office have the latest updates. Here’s how to install updates:

    Make sure your Mac has a working internet connection, then:

    1. Update Mac OS X. Open the App store and click on the Updates button. Install the updates.
    2. After, in any Office application go to the Help menu and choose Check for Updates to launch the AutoUpdate app. Let AutoUpdate install updates and then restart your Mac.

    My reading of the Outlook for Mac 2016 sales pitch seems to suggest we can now save incoming email messages and single or multiple attachments to file or to portable hard drives.

    Does anyone know if this is true? Have you tried it?

    I am not prepared to invest in another Office package if it does not contain this critical feature.

    It's not true. That's available in Outlook for Windows, but not in the Mac version.

    In Outlook 2016 for Mac, everything goes to ~/Library/Group Containers/UBF8T346G9.Office/Outlook/Outlook 15 Profiles/Main Profile

    I have just tried it again using a new Office 365 Outlook for Mac v15.36.1 on my laptop and "Save As" now works. For the first time in 5 years I can now save the covering email, plus Word docs and pdf attachments straight to a specific subsidiary folder within my personal Documents general folder (quaintly called my filing system), just as we used to do. 

    Unfortunately, I still cannot do it on my desktop computer which uses Outlook for Mac 2011 v14.7.3. Only attachments can be saved and even then not to a specific subsidiary folder.

    If anyone has a new 'purchased' copy of Outlook for Mac 2016 on their computer, can you see if this modification works on that? 

    I still have my trusty old Mac PowerPC over in the corner as a backup, and Office 2004 (Outlook was called Entourage in those days) is still working and enables me to 'Save As' emails and all attachments in the way 365 does today.
