Teams hogging memory, running slowly

Hi

Teams is almost killing my laptop. Here's an example:

Is there anything  can do to reduce Teams' memory usage?

Or do I just need to buy more memory?

Thanks!

Despite this, we've been using it during COVID-19. In practice, we haven't had any performance issues to speak of. Maybe it scales? Teams has been very useful for working from home.

Have a read of following. This is normal behaviour for Chromium based app/browser.

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoftteams/teams-memory-usage-perf

    Specifically...

Whether you're running the Teams desktop app or the Teams web app, Chromium detects how much system memory is available and utilizes enough of that memory to optimize the rendering experience. When other apps or services require system memory, Chromium gives up memory to those processes. Chromium tunes Teams memory usage on an ongoing basis in order to optimize Teams performance without impacting anything else currently running.

In this way, similar Chromium workloads can utilize varying amounts of memory, depending on the amount of system memory that is available.

You might not notice it unless you're on a machine with less than 16gB of RAM. It's still a memory hog which for such a simple application it doesn't need to be so I can only assume it's poorly developed. Unfortunately Msft doesn't fix things like this usually.

Hi, I solved by a workaround, I disabled GPU = acceleration material.

To do that make a right click on Teams icon in task bar and Settings = Disable material acceleration.

To be honest, It's not used.... I don't see the difference except that my PC doesn't make fan noise ;-)

It's a workaround, but clearly Microsoft team in charge of Teams Dev and particulary 3D using need to check !

This is the one thing that seemed to help a little. Not enough though, it's just a pig of a program.

I have since banned the use of Teams throughout our company as it simply causes time to be wasted on any system it runs on. Sad, as it was a good idea before being rammed down our throats without being tested for purpose.

This has caused some issues in client comms, but I am recommending to all clients that they follow suit and working around the issue as needed.

    What a joke of product.

This may be the case, but Teams is using this far more liberally than other Chromium based programs.

Teams doesn't use available system memory, it determines available system memory!

MS don't care and wont even respond to support requests on the subject. Dump it
