Hope I can save you all time...
There is no true resolution to this. I've dedicated a lot of time in the past 3 months. I spent many, many hours with both the Office 365 team, and the Windows team to try to resolve it. In fact, today I'm typing this on a brand new Surface PRO replacement
device MS sent me to try to resolve the issue. (Nice gesture by the way. They do have great Customer Service team members!!)
What I've tried:
- Thinking it was my PC, I even purchased a new Surface 7 back in December. It was not the PC.
- I worked for about 3 weeks with the the Office 365 team. They knows this is an issue and from the string, for a very long time now. After about 3 weeks, they fell short to call this an Teams issue, and kept me running in diagnostic loops. (Scan, log,
send files, try this, try that). They finally they gave up, said Teams is running properly and that it's an issue with Windows 10. I have the email correspondence.
- The Windows 10 support team, tried hard to help. Same diagnostic loops. Even sent me a new Surface Device. (Again! Sincerely - Great Customer Service people,)
Today,
with the new surface 10 finally up and running for 1 full day, I'm back to the loud fan, high CPU and disastrous memory issues related to Teams.
Tips:
- The disabling of the GPU was the only valid option, but didn't help enough. (right click setting on your teams icon in the task bar)
- The issue is caused by the add-in for outlook. If you don't meet using Teams, disable this NOW. It will help the most.
For us, well we can't we disable the add-in. It defeats the purpose of having teams. If we do, we can't book meetings from the outlook client. We are even paying for the extra audio conferencing add-in.
Result:
We are exploring other options, which likely means dropping our entire 365 subscription to offset the costs of move to a platform that offers meetings, collaboration, email, and drive sharing.
Sad that MS has not realized the urgency of this fix.
Sorry for the bad news. I hope I at least saved you all a bunch of time.
