How can I create a channel (or team) from a chatgroup in MSTeams? .

We started a project organization in a chatgroup and now I want to keep the chat history and transfer everything in a team.

I am told from our IT responsibles that this is not possible and I cannot believe it.

Pls tell me the opposite.

Unfortunately, your IT team is correct. As of now, Microsoft Teams does not support directly converting a chat group into a team or channel while retaining the chat history. However, there are a few workarounds you can consider:

Create a New Team and Add Members:
- You can create a new team and manually add the members from the chat group.
- Go to Teams > Join or create a team > Create team.
- Choose From scratch or From a group or team.
- Add the members from your chat group to this new team. See Create a standard, private, or shared channel in Microsoft Teams - Microsoft Support [f9cc-2c35-ba3-bd5a]
Pin the Chat Group:
- Rename the chat group to reflect the project name.
- Pin the chat group to the top of your chat list for easy access.
- This way, you can continue using the chat group for discussions while using the new team for file sharing and other collaborative tasks.
Copy Important Information:
- Manually copy and paste important messages or files from the chat group to the new team or channel.
- This ensures that critical information is not lost and is accessible to all team members.

While these workarounds are not perfect, they can help you transition from a chat group to a team without losing important information. Hopefully, Microsoft will introduce a feature to directly convert chat groups to teams in the future.

Yes, I can create a new team and copy everything important….

NO HELP AT ALL !!

Next question:

How can I synchronize a team with a local file server to save documents (& chats) that otherwise get lost in teams somewhere…
