outlook error 'copying meetings is not supported' when copying to PST

UPDATE: this only happens with the beta channel release. the standard channel I have on another computer works fine. then another question is... what is the reason behind this change?

hi all, starting this afternoon (october 17) when I try to copy from O365 to a local PST a calendar invite with participants on it (regardless of whether I created or received it) I receive an error message 'copying meetings is not supported'.

the only annoying workaround is to open the occurrence, save it to the desktop, drag and drop it to the PST. not ideal.

until yesterday when drag-dropping the same calendar invite, I would receive a message asking if I want to copy the occurrence or the series, and *poof* done.

OS: win 11 22h2 all updates installed, OS build 22621.2428, experience pack 1000.22674.1000.0, already restarted even though I know it wouldn't solve the issue. nothing in the event viewer.

outlook: it's the company O365 account. calendar fully synced, Windows client, no new version (come to think of it, the 'new version' button disappeared too from the client). Spoke to a mail admin and to my understanding they haven't activated any strange setting today.

PST: tried to move the calendar invite to two different, I am the owner, they are on my pc, permissions are right, files are small so limit size has not been reached.

calendar events: only events (series or standard occurrences) with participants in it are affected. all events created by myself and for myself can be copied as usual.

I checked the release notes and I can't see anything related to this.

so my questions are ... is it a new behavior? can it be deactivated given how irritating it is? any workaround less time consuming than the one above?

    Agree 100%. I need no orders from Microsoft on "best practices" for managing my own calendar. They've managed to take a helpful and easy "drag and drop" function and turn it into a technical exercise that is beyond the skill level of many users, this one included.

    Yeah, you have to add the key. Once it is added you have to set a vale = 1 binary.

    NOTE: I'm only having the problem on my work computer, which is older and running one Windows 10. I have two computers at home, a laptop on Windows 11 and a desktop on Windows 10, and neither is experiencing a problem.

    I think the note in the original post is spot-on: "this only happens with the beta channel release".

    I'm no expert but know enough to make simple changes to the registry. For this "problem", I did it like this:

    1. In the Windows search tool, I start typing "registry". At some point the Registry Editor app comes up and I use the menu to Open it.
    2. Once in the registry editor, items are organized on the left just like File Explorer.
    3. I use this to navigate to the "Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office" folder as shown in other posts in this thread
      • At this point, it is important to know which version of Office you're running ... but you eventually want to get to one that ends with \Outlook\Options\Calendar, again as shown in other posts in this thread.
    4. If the EnableMeetingCopy key doesn't exist, you can add it by right-clicking in the item list, selecting the New option that comes up (it was the only thing that came up when I did the right click), and selecting the DWORD (32-bit) item.
    5. You type in EnableMeetingCopy as the name, then right click on this new key, select Modify, the finally change the Value data field to 1 and click on OK.

    At least that's how I did it ... !

    I inserted a picture of my Registry entry . . . . . I had to create the key "Calendar" . . . . it wasn't there under Options

    I then had to create the DWORD entry "EnableMeetingCopy" and change the DWORD to 2.

    Do you not see my attempted registry entry picure?
