outlook error 'copying meetings is not supported' when copying to PST

UPDATE: this only happens with the beta channel release. the standard channel I have on another computer works fine. then another question is... what is the reason behind this change?

hi all, starting this afternoon (october 17) when I try to copy from O365 to a local PST a calendar invite with participants on it (regardless of whether I created or received it) I receive an error message 'copying meetings is not supported'.

the only annoying workaround is to open the occurrence, save it to the desktop, drag and drop it to the PST. not ideal.

until yesterday when drag-dropping the same calendar invite, I would receive a message asking if I want to copy the occurrence or the series, and *poof* done.

OS: win 11 22h2 all updates installed, OS build 22621.2428, experience pack 1000.22674.1000.0, already restarted even though I know it wouldn't solve the issue. nothing in the event viewer.

outlook: it's the company O365 account. calendar fully synced, Windows client, no new version (come to think of it, the 'new version' button disappeared too from the client). Spoke to a mail admin and to my understanding they haven't activated any strange setting today.

PST: tried to move the calendar invite to two different, I am the owner, they are on my pc, permissions are right, files are small so limit size has not been reached.

calendar events: only events (series or standard occurrences) with participants in it are affected. all events created by myself and for myself can be copied as usual.

I checked the release notes and I can't see anything related to this.

so my questions are ... is it a new behavior? can it be deactivated given how irritating it is? any workaround less time consuming than the one above?

thanks!

    Hello Michele A2,

    Greetings!

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community.

It appears that the issue of not copying meeting happen on Beta Channel build in Outlook application. Let us check and see on what we can do to help resolve your concern in a timely manner.

As provided that the issue is happening on Beta Channel build, what we can do is to provide feedback so this can be investigated by our engineers. You can do these steps:

    • From your Microsoft 365 app, go to Help > Feedback(or File > Feedback).

Additionally, you can opt out from Beta Channel build and install the current preview in your device to have the feature working properly as the Beta Channel build is full of bugs and glitches. To switch out from insider build, follow the steps below:

    • Open the Outlook app and click on Help in the upper right corner.
    • Choose Check for Updates from the drop-down menu.
    • Click on Advanced and change the Insider channel to the Current one.
    • Restart the Outlook app and it should update to the latest version of the Current channel.

We appreciate for providing your feedback to help us improve the experience in using the application.

    Sincerely,

    Tomm_A

I tried to opt out of Beta Channel as you describe above but the check for updates does not appear anywhere in my Outlook Help directory?

I haven't been able to reinstate the ability to copy meetings from one calendar to another following the provided steps. I also unmarked Turn on shared calendar improvements in both calendars, and restarted Outlook. That did not work either. I have multiple work calendars that I manage myself and being able to copy from one to another is incredibly important for me to not become double-booked.

    Thank you.

Due to this error, I opted out of Beta and installed the current channel (preview). The error disappeared until today; the same error message now reappeared in the current channel.
