UPDATE: this only happens with the beta channel release. the standard channel I have on another computer works fine. then another question is... what is the reason behind this change?
hi all, starting this afternoon (october 17) when I try to copy from O365 to a local PST a calendar invite with participants on it (regardless of whether I created or received it) I receive an error message 'copying meetings is not supported'.
the only annoying workaround is to open the occurrence, save it to the desktop, drag and drop it to the PST. not ideal.
until yesterday when drag-dropping the same calendar invite, I would receive a message asking if I want to copy the occurrence or the series, and *poof* done.
OS: win 11 22h2 all updates installed, OS build 22621.2428, experience pack 1000.22674.1000.0, already restarted even though I know it wouldn't solve the issue. nothing in the event viewer.
outlook: it's the company O365 account. calendar fully synced, Windows client, no new version (come to think of it, the 'new version' button disappeared too from the client). Spoke to a mail admin and to my understanding they haven't activated any strange setting today.
PST: tried to move the calendar invite to two different, I am the owner, they are on my pc, permissions are right, files are small so limit size has not been reached.
calendar events: only events (series or standard occurrences) with participants in it are affected. all events created by myself and for myself can be copied as usual.
I checked the release notes and I can't see anything related to this.
so my questions are ... is it a new behavior? can it be deactivated given how irritating it is? any workaround less time consuming than the one above?

I had to create "Calender" key from scratch.

You most certainly ARE an expert! I just made the change and it worked! Thank you very much. Why in the world did Microsoft change this anyway? It's very helpful, especially when you have to populate several calendars or have one meeting that occurs several times over an extended period but not on the same day each month. THANK YOU!!!
Totally agree. When you use the calendar extensively, it really does create a lot of wasted time.

As I don't work for MS, I can't say, but I am very curious, as well. Our MSP/IT, speculated that MS received repetitive complaints about certain functions not working, potentially when calendar updates are not updated to the copied calendar. The updates occur only on the originating calendar, e.g., the organizer changes the meeting time, this would update on the person's calendar that received the invitation from the organizer, but the meeting invitation that was copied to a different calendar would not update. Whether that is the reason &/or true or not, that makes sense. So, something that could not function because the way a calendar invite is to function, people might have complained that it wasn't working properly and therefore, the copy function was turned off rather than continually field questions about the same issue over & over. AGAIN, pure speculation. I doubt we'll ever know why.
The regedit, albeit a clunky fix, has held for 3 days for the one employee's computer that we are testing it on. However, who knows if MS will update something else in the program and the regedit drops off, only needing to be reinstalled with "fingers-crossed" that the regedit fix will allow the copy function to work again.
Sorry I have no concrete evidence to anything in this post. I'd suggest clicking on the Help menu inside Outlook and then click on Contact Support &/or click on Feedback (same Help menu) and share your thoughts. If enough people are not happy with the change, MS might listen and bring it back. I don't know...just some other suggestions to try.

Specifically, I would like to know what "unexpected results" were critical enough to warrant disabling such a useful workflow?
As far as I know, nobody in our office had any negative experience as a result of copying meetings between calendars.
