Greetings from the Visio Team,

We are pleased to announce an earlypreview of the Database Model Diagram (also known as Database Reverse Engineering) as an add-in for Visio, brought to you exclusively by the Office Insider Program.

We are looking for a limited number of participants to give us early feedback on this add-in experience. Listening and learning from our customers is a critical part of our product development. If you have great suggestions, already use Visio or just want to learn more, we encourage you to read on, sign up, and talk to us by posting below.

What will this add-in do?

The Database Model Diagram add-in lets you design a new database model from an existing one, and helps you understand the structure of existing databases, too.

Database models graphically capture and display key database elements - such as tables and views that are related to each other - making it easy to create, consume and share new and existing databases.

How does the preview work?

The preview is open to all levels of Office Insiders, including Insider Slow and Insider Fast. If you are not a part of the Office Insider Program, you can still get access to the preview by signing up.

Is the preview available in many languages?

Currently it is available only in English (EN-*).

How do I send feedback?

You can send in your feedback in the following ways -

  • email VizDBRE@microsoft.com
  • post your questions under this announcement, where the Visio team will respond to your inquiries.
  • Visit Visio UserVoice forum to give suggestions, share your ideas or vote on submitted requests.

I'm new to Visio. Where can I learn more?

We welcome anyone who wants to give our early feature preview a try. Not familiar with Visio? No problem. Take a test drive with A beginner's guide to Visio and Tutorial for Visio 2016 to learn the basics.

I don't have a Visio Pro license; can I still try out the feature preview?

You'll need a Visio Pro for Office 365 subscription to try out the feature preview. Learn more and try Visio Pro for Office 365 from here.

Sincerely,

Visio Product Team

    Hi maarzt,

Apologies for the confusion on build number. The correct build number to enable this feature is 16.0.7571.2109 and above.

You will not see the add-in because the code needed to enable the add-in is not updated in your build. You can update Visio by going to File -> Account -> Update.

Please let us know if you are unable to update to a build above 16.0.7571.2109.

    Thanks,

    Raju

when i attempt to update using

Account > Update Options > Update Now

I receive the message "You're up to date"

My installed build is still 16.0.6965.2117

"Updates are automatically downloaded and installed.  Deferred Channel"

How can I get the build you say I need - 16.0.7571.2109 and above?

    thanks for your help.

any feedback from anyone regarding to the instruction of downloading the latest built version for the visio 2016 pro, I also did the update on the office, but it still said 16.0.6965.2117.

Coincidentally, I found that this version is referring to the visio 2013 prof.

    It is quite confusing!

And please let us know how to get to the 16.0.7571.2109, is this number refer to the ms office 365 or the visio? And are you sure that after upgrade to this version, then we should be able to use the reverse engineering feature? Some people from other blogs said that it has some issues and thus the feature was taken away since the late last year and probably will be returned sometimes by the end of this year.

    Thanks,

    Stan

    Hi maarzt/stanleyssum,

You need to move to 'Current Channel' to get the latest updates quickly. Please go through the blog here to get more information regarding channels and how to modify them.

Also, this Microsoft blog gives an easy way to set the reg keys for the same. Kindly let us know if you are unblocked.

I used the "Quick Fix" file successfully and am now on the "current channel"

now the installed version of Visio Pro on my computer is  16.0.7668.7101

The addin still doesnt work.  When I start the Database Model Diagram once it opens

there is a yellow message below the ribbon that says:

SUBSCRIPTION FEATURE  The Visio add-in for Database Modeling is available only for Visio Pro for o365.

Please upgrade to get this functionality.

When I check "Subscriptions" in my account, it says:

    Visio Pro for Office 365

    Office 365 Enterprise E3

Please let me know what to do next
