Have various Outlook 2016 search problem recently, but couldn't solve the latest one. User is on Windows 7

What happen:

Everytime the user starts the Outlook, it will give this warning.

Search cannot complete the indexing of your Outlook data. Indexing cannot continue for C:\Users\xxxxx\Documents\Outlook Files\xxxxxx.pst (error=0x81404005). If this error continues, contact Microsoft Support.

Search will works, but will not index any new incoming emails

If user close the Outlook and start again, it gives the same warning again, and previous unindex emails will be indexed. But subsequently new incoming emails will not be indexed again until the next Outlook restart.

We have tried:

  1. rebuild the index
  2. create a new mail profile
  3. move the pst to the totally new pst
  4. update Office to latest version 1705, Build 8201.2102
  5. run a repair Office

still having the same problem.

any suggestion?

Update: With the help from Richard Batty here, we located the offending update that causes this problem. On Windows 7, the update is KB4022719, on Windows 10 it's KB4022715.

THANK YOU!!!!!!  My life is in order again.  It is scary how much I depend on being able to find old emails and message trains in order to get my work done.  When indexer is down it is like I lost 90% of my brain.

    ** EDITED **

Same error here with multiple auxiliary pst files giving this error.  The KB patch above fixed it for me... so far.

    Windows 10 Version 1511 KB 4032693

    Things that did NOT work:

    • Deleted my Exchange OST and let it re-download
    • Deleted my profile and then re-opened all of my auxiliary pst files that were causing the issue
    • Removed a lot of offline profiles that X1 Search added to be able to search unconnected pst files
    • moved all contents to new pst files (using Outlook Move To Folder...)
    • split up my large (>2G) pst files into smaller files
    • rebuilt the index multiple times

    Have not tried:

    • Office repair
    • Office update

    Details:

    Windows 10

    Office 2010 14.0.7182.5000 (32-bit)

    NM,

From what I see its unfortunately expected that IE 11 will have the crash for now.  This is what it lists in the latest update for Win 8.1 https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4022720.

    Known issues in this update:

After you install this update, Internet Explorer 11 may close unexpectedly when you visit some websites. When the problem occurs, you may receive an error message that resembles the following:

We were unable to return you to [previous URL]

Internet Explorer has stopped trying to restore this website. It appears the website continues to have a problem.

The problem may occur if the website is complex and uses certain web API's.

I have seen some Windows support cases with this and I expect they will have it fixed in the next update.

Well I got myself into a pickle. Once I installed the new update I started getting crashes in MSHTML.DLL when running IE. When I tried uninstall the latest update the uninstall worked but the crashes kept occurring. On other systems where I installed the latest update KB4022720 over the top of KB4022726 everything works great so I restored my system back to where the first update was still installed and that cured the problem with MSHTML.DLL but I still get a little warning in the log which I prefer to the crash. Anyone run into this and fixed it?
