Hi Insiders,

My name is Constance, and I’m a program manager on the Office Graphics team. We're excited to announce the availability of a new collection of icons. Browse through more than 500 icons to find one that suits your purpose, and then edit its fill and outline to match a theme.

Availability

If you receive builds of Office 2016 for Windows through the Office Insiders Slow or Fast level, you can now add icons into any Word document, Excel workbook, PowerPoint presentation or Outlook email.

Get started

In any app, click Insert > Icons:

Scenarios to try

Insert icons

  1. Click Insert > Icons.
  2. From the Insert Icon dialog box, search for an icon, or browse by category.
  3. Insert the icon into your document, presentation, workbook, or e-mail message.

Edit Icons

  • After you insert an icon, use the formatting options on the Graphics Tools tab to change the icon’s fill or outline, or to add a visual effect such as glow or shadow.

    I get the feeling we are on our own with this one.  I also am sensing this was not anticipated, so maybe we just lose the Insert Icons and that's the end of that :-(  Just reminds me why I hate losing control of my software features!

    This is basically splendid news and I love it. More than the icons (which are regular ones) I love the option to FINALLY implement SVG icons into my workflow, we can now use vectors!

    I have  an important quesition, since I'm a PowerPoint trainer and need to give precise information to my audience and viewers. 

    1. Are only office 365 subscribers eliglible for that update, or can PowerPoint 2016 users also update their software and get icons / svg usage? 
    2. PowerPoint 2013 and below that version users are out of the game, right? This is only for the current, PPT 2016 version?

    #1 ICONS is one of the new features limited to 365 subscriptions.  One-time payment licenses are second-class and are not deserving of these new features.  Thank you MS for making trouble shooting and training more difficult (talk about mixed messages after locking down the "Ribbon").  I have one-time payment 2016 up to date, and my PPT Illustrations group only has Shapes, SmartArt and Chart buttons.

    #2 That is correct. MS does not add new features to older versions of Office, even though they do still provide security updates.

    If I have custom SVG-icons, is there any way to include them in the gallery of this functionality?

    For example, where I work, we have a gallery of 100 customized icons for the business and / or logos in SVG format. Can we include these icons in the gallery to be used in this functionality?
