"The ordinal 11505 could not be located in the dynamic link library" error when installing Project 2016 after Office 365 Home x64 Insider

After successfully installing Office 365 Home x64 Insider on Windows 10 Pro Fall Update, I installed Project 2016 x64. However, I get the following error when trying to open Project 2016 after installation:

The ordinal 11505 could not be located in the dynamic link library C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\root\Office 16\WINPROJ.EXE

Hi Judah -

Thanks for raising the issue. We were able to reproduce it internally and have a workaround for you:

  1. Open Excel, Word, or any Office app other than Project.
  2. Go to File -> Account -> Update Options-> Update Now.
  3. Follow the prompts to update.
  4. After the update completes, try opening Project again.

Once you confirm that Project works, please install the Office Insider build again.

This time, because Project is already installed, it will also be updated to receive Office Insider builds and you should no longer see this error.

Judah, we have one more thing we'd like you to try:

  1. Close all open Office apps
  2. Reinstall the Office Insider buildfrom your My Account page.
  3. Now, open Project.

This *should* fix the Project issue for you. Let us know if otherwise!

    Hi Annelise

    Unfortunately that didn't work. Update Now said I had no updates available, and then trying to open Project 2016 after that produced the same "ordinal 11505" error.

    Any other ideas?
