It appears that this case is not one that was covered by the hotfix today. The best course of action to ensure that this is captured is to use the in-app feedback to submit a report (using the smiley face icon).

I updated to 16.9.1 only a few minutes ago, and my third-party font issues were not resolved. For example, word does not recognize my copy of Garamond ATF Text's italics, and simply obliques the roman forms. Additionally, I have a style which sets Houston Text as the body font, and Slate Std as the header font. When I set that style, word begins to slow dramatically, and does not set the proper fonts, instead defaulting to some Microsoft font.

If you were experiencing issues with 3rd party fonts in Word or PowerPoint, there has been a fix released to PRODUCTIONand INSIDER SLOW builds of those applications for some of these issues. If those fonts are critical to you, we would suggest installing the most recent Production build, or changing your Insider settings to move to the Insider Slow builds. This fix should be in the next Insider Fast build as well when that releases.
If you install one of these builds and are still experiencing issues with 3rd party fonts, please let us know.
This fix does NOT address the issues impacting fonts such as Helvetica Nue or Gill Sans. Fixes for those are still in progress.

You're not writing to Microsoft here. This forum is primarily user-to-user, although sometimes Microsoft support people and others also join in.
Microsoft is aware of font problems in 16.9. You should submit your own reports to Microsoft using Help > Send feedback in Outlook (this question is about Outlook, so I am assuming that is the app you are having trouble with). In other apps, click the Smile button to send reports about font issues to Microsoft. Submitting reports within the apps is the way to let Microsoft know they have a problem to fix. The more reports, the sooner they will get to work on fixing this.
