Font Issues with office 365 Outlook/Word 16.9 (for Mac)

Gill Sans is not working correctly. Gill Sans Light appears as a serif font and Gill Sans Regular appears as Gill Sans Light?

Hi as0773,

It appears that this case is not one that was covered by the hotfix today. The best course of action to ensure that this is captured is to use the in-app feedback to submit a report (using the smiley face icon).

    Reinstalling an older version was the only solution that helped me:

    I tried, but after completing the installation, the new version (16.9) is still working. In other words, It didn't downgrade.... How to uninstall the "new version" and to restore the old one?

    This is a annoying issue indeed! I use continuously ppt files for presentations....

    I fixed the problem UNISTALLING the 16.9 version (here the procedure: https://support.office.com/en-us/article/Uninstall-Office-2016-for-Mac-eefa1199-5b58-43af-8a3d-b73dc1a8cae3) and re-installing the 15.41 suite. 

    Everything was restored (even if you loose the library with preferences) but the formatting it's now ok. Waiting for the fix by Microsoft!!

    I successfully installed the version 15.41 again, and all is back normal, what I did.

    1. Deleted all Microsoft programs in the finder (programs)
    2. Emptied the trash bin
    3. Downloaded and installed the MS Version 15.41
    4. While starting Word, it got stuck to restore the history and preferences, I just forced quit the program and started it again.
    5. Back to working Helvetica Neue Font 
    6. Disabled the autoupdate function under the help of word

    Hope this might help, others.

    Hi Hans,

    Thank you for your reply.

    On Outlook, I select Gill Sans Light to compose an email. As I type, the font appears as a serif font.

    On Word, I select Gill Sans Light to compose a document. As I type, the font appears heavier than usual but not quite Gill Sans Regular. If I select Gill Sans regular and compose a document, the font looks to be Gill Sans Light.

    Hi Jake,

    Is that you select Gill Sans Light when composing email and it will turn back to Gill Light Regular automatically if you compose the email in a new window? 

    I'd like to let you know that this is a normal behavior for Outlook & Word, the default setting for Gill Regular is Regular.
