Unable to launch Access after Insider install 1802 9020.2003

I installed the Insider build for Office 365 Sunday, version 1802 build 9020.2003

Now Access will not launch. Not having a problem with other apps that I can tell - Excel/Word/PowerPoint/OneNote/Outlook.

However, when I try to launch Access, I get the following:

"Automatic configuration of the current version of Microsoft Access has failed. Your database might not function correctly. This can occur if you do not have the necessary permission to install Microsoft Access on this computer."

I do have the necessary permission, so that isn't it. I've:

  • rebooted (Windows 10, build 1709)
  • Run a quick repair
  • Run a full online repair

Still won't launch.

It was working just fine on Friday with whatever the previous build of 1801 was.

    It appears that it hasn't found anything wrong with the configuration. You mentioned doing a full online repair, but have you done a full uninstall, followed by a restart, before reinstalling?

    No, That wasn't high on my list of things to do honestly given all of my preferences and stuff, especially in Excel, and since that is no guarantee as I have also seen some posts that full uninstalls don't fix the registry issues. For example - this thread.

    In fact, that example they removed office than ran the office fix it tool to do an even fuller uninstall/cleanup, and that didn't work.

    There are two issues with a severity status of "informational", one with cached credentials, and one with a Profile Type = Local, but no issues that need to be fixed. There is no FIX IT link.

    What now?

    After doing a little bit of looking around, this looks like it can occur with some registry issues when updating from a previous version. This can happen during any upgrade, so it likely isn't specifically Insider build related.

    Can you try installing the https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=36852and then running a scan on Access? Any issues it discovers should have a "fix this" link.
