MS Tech support told me Copilot was coming 'soon' to customers on beta channel - keen to learn but not a fotune 500. Are we likely to get this soon?

There is a tremendous amount of excitement and anticipation about chatGPT. Microsoft is trying to set expectations and manage the roll-out so that everyone gets a smooth experience.
An excellent place to spend some time as we wait for the roll-out to reach us, is Microsoft's site devoted to ethical considerations of AI. I think understanding how Microsoft views AI from an ethical standpoint will go a long way in setting expectations as to how Microsoft's AI will function. Microsoft understands this is a big moment in computing history. There's a lot of risk in rolling something out this important. They want to get it right. At each phase of the roll-out, you can be sure they are carefully monitoring many things: user reactions, press reactions, and their ability to deliver the product without overloading the systems.
Right now, everyone can use chatGPT for free at Bing.com. For Office 365, Bing's chatGPT provides free coding help for developers who use VBA and/or Javascript on Mac and Windows. That's a major piece of the Office 365 roll-out.
As has already been pointed out, Microsoft has cherry-picked a small number of enterprise customers for intense testing. Based on this, I would expect the next ring will be a larger number of enterprise customers in the Office Insider beta channel, which this forum exists for.
If I were in charge at Microsoft, I would do exactly what they are doing. Slowly adding more and more groups to the beta channel.
If you are not already in the beta channel, here's how to subscribe:
For Mac: Welcome to the Office Insider for Mac community!
For Windows: Join the Microsoft 365 Insider Program - Office Insiders
Anyone had any idea how to sign up for the Beta program?
My understanding is that it's invite only still
