Clipchamp has destroyed my video and now they won't fix it. What can I do?

I downloaded clip champ to edit some old football footage that I paid to have digitalized from VHS. I had this media stored on a USB drive since 10/22/22, playing it, as is, various times. I practiced using the application with another media file that was more recent and saved to a cloud server. Everything seemed to be fine and okay so I proceed to try out the product with the video from my USB drive. I uploaded the video directly from the USB drive to Clipchamp and after about 15 minutes it was available for editing. The file was working in Clipchamp and I was able to begin making edits to the video. I had to walk away from the computer for about 30 minutes before I returned. Upon returning I had some other tasks to complete before returning to the video editor. The application was still open the whole time and as I went to make some adjustments it was no longer working. I closed out the application and restarted it to see if that would fix the issues but, unfortunately it did not. That would have been okay but when I went to access the original file it was now inoperable due to the file being corrupted. Upon contacting the support team from Microsoft and getting transferred through multiple departments they of course denied that there was anyway possible that Clipchamp could have anything to do with the corruption of the file. I find this hard to believe because there was only the one video file on the USB drive and the corruption happened within a period of about four hours. Considering no other process would have requested or access the drive and the short amount of time when the corruption happened it obvious to me that when they uploaded from the USB drive something happened. After unsuccessfully trying to convince me that their application was not responsible for the corruption they gave me some google search on how to fix a corrupted file and sent me up the creek but kept the paddle. Within a span of 12 hours Clipchamp successfully destroyed a twenty plus year-old memory that I tried to protect by digitalization and left me with a bill to either try to get the file fixed or having to pay again for the digitalization of my VHS tape (if it still works). Suggestions would be appreciated but at the very least I want this to serve as a warning to others that Clipchamp will destroy your media and Microsoft will not help. Its deep out here in the creek and traffic moves slow please be aware.
