I moved your question to the Insider forum, as you are using an Insider Fast build of Outlook for Mac.

There is a new build (170712) of Outlook available to Insiders. In Outlook, go to the Help menu and choose Check for Updates to launch AutoUpdate, which should install the new build for you.

If you still have the problem after installing the new build, you might try renaming or deleting NormalEmail.dotm. To do this, you must ensure that you File > Quit both Word and Outlook. Then go to the hidden user Library folder.

The file path is

After you delete or rename the NormalEmail.dotm, the next time you open Outlook it should make a new, pristine copy.

    Hello Cindy,

We have received some reports of this error and will further look into it. Could you please share a screenshot of this error?

Did you try opening the Outlook with a new profile to see if it works? Do not delete the old profile.

From Finder, open the Applications folder.

Ctrl+click or right-click Microsoft Outlook, and then click Show Package Contents.

Open Contents > SharedSupport, and then double-click Outlook Profile Manager.

Click the Create a new profile button "+" , and then type a name for the new profile.

Click on this new profile >"gear button" > Set as Default. Restart Outlook for this change to take effect.

    Best Regards,

    Alison

worked like a charm: I went to the folder, didn´t find NormalEmail.dotm but instead normal.dotm; renamed it to _normal.dotm and the annyoance was gone

I also checked: open Outlook, open Word, close Outlook (while word is still open) and it closed without complaint: problem solved.

    THANK YOU!
