Send to > Mail recipient - 'This action is not supported while an older version of Outlook is running'

Hi all,

We are using the Office Insider channel for some of our laptops on site. We have the 365 Click-To-Run installed.

I've noticed that the 'Right click' > 'Send to' > 'Mail recipient' is not working while Outlook is running. It returns the following error:

"This action is not supported while an older version of outlook is running"

The default email is set to Outlook. It works fine if we close Outlook first and try the function. There are no other versions of Office installed. I have moved back to the Semi Annual channel and the function works as expected.

Has anyone else noticed this? We'd like to keep using the Insider build.

    Can you provide a little more information for us so we can look into this further?

    • Which app(s) are you trying to use the "Send to" > "Mail recipient" from?
    • Which Insider build do you have installed? You can see that by going to File > Account and looking for the section that reads "Version xxxx (Build xxxxx.xxxxx Click-to-Run)." We need to know that full set of numbers.

    Hi Jesse,

    We are trying to send from either right clicking an Excel (csv or xlxs file) or a Word document and the same error pops up.

    The version is 1806 (Build 10211.20004 Click-to-Run)

    Do you have an update available for Office if you go to File > Account > Office Updates? You do not seem to be running the most recent available build.

    Thank you for the reply Jesse.

    Seems that we were not on the latest build. 1809 resolved the issue, but should Office Insider not update by itself?

    If you have Auto Update enabled in your update settings it should update by itself. It is possible to have that setting turned off. You should be able to check that in the same place you checked for updates.
