GOTCHA! THANKS ANYWAY!
This browser is no longer supported.
Upgrade to Microsoft Edge to take advantage of the latest features, security updates, and technical support.
See below screenshot, on both sides of the background, it is now all black. This happened when I upgraded to the latest version today (also shown in the screenshot).
My question: Is this a default setting or did something go wrong? How can I turn it back to WHITE space like before?
Note:
Thanks!

Then this is exactly the kind of thing you should tell Microsoft about.
Use the Help menu and choose Feedback > I Don't Like Something and be sure to include a screen shot and contact info.
Nope, I didn't turn on the Focus view, below is when Focus mode is ON. You see in Focus view, you can change the color of the background, but there is NO option for a WHITE space, and if I do NOT use Focus view, things go back to what I said before.
BTW: The black space only occurred when I updated from Version 16.78.3 (23102801) to Version 16.80 (23110818) all previous versions worked fine.
It looks like you turned Focus view on.
On the View tab of the Ribbon click the Focus button to toggle the view off.
