Microsoft Word 2016 Save loop

Split from this thread.

I'm seeing a similar issue with Word 15.19.1 on OS X Yosemite. Just upgraded to trial for production and I'm getting an endless save loop when trying to save as rtf. The process takes time and eventually the save as dialog reappears and no files have been saved. It is a large file (~170MB).

    Hi again everyone,

I've been told that a possible fix for this issue for Word has been released to our Insider Fast builds (click here for more about the Insider program for Mac).

If you join the program and download the latest Insider Fast build, please post back here to let us know whether you're still experiencing this issue.

As always, many thanks for your patience.

    Best,

If you’re still running into issues after installing the Insider Fast update per my previous instructions, please complete the following steps and let us know what you experience:

    1. Close Word.
    2. Click the magnifying glass icon in the top right corner of your screen, type Terminal, and press Return.
    3. In the Terminal window that opens, type the following and press Return: defaults write com.microsoft.Word ForceTempFilesInAppContainer 1
    4. To ensure that this setting worked,
      1. Open a Finder window, and press Command+Shift+G.
      2. Type the following path:

~/Library/Containers/com.microsoft.Word/Data/Library/Application Support/Microsoft/Temp 3. Press Return. Upon launching Word, this folder will be created if it doesn't exist, and Word will create a temp file inside it. Quitting Word will then cause this temp file to removed, which tells us that the new setting has taken effect.

Again, many thanks for your patience.

    Best,

    -Erik, Office Newsroom

I am still encountering a save loop problem with a ~25MB .docx file. The problem is present on both 15.26 (normal channel) and 15.27 (fast channel), and I'm on OS X El Capitan (10.11.6). I have tried the above steps successfully, but they don't solve the problem.
