Outlook 365 for Mac email not syncing

Title says it all :/ The problem email account is IMAP and materialized yesterday afternoon - all my gmail accounts work correctly. I'm currently running macOS Sonoma 14.2, and Outlook version 16.80. I use legacy outlook as opposed to new outlook. I have tried:

  • removing and adding back the IMAP account
  • reverting to new Outlook and jumping back to legacy
  • ensuring there's not a communication between issue between outlook and the IMAP server
  • authentication of account with user name & password (in lieu of using incoming server info)
  • test emails: sending from the IMAP account to one of my gmail accounts is successful and the sent IMAP email is visible in the gmail inbox. sending from my gmail account to the IMAP account indicates email sent, but does not appear in IMAP inbox.
  • using safari to log into the IMAP's web interface, I am able to view many email, but of course they do not appear in my outlook imap inbox.

I'd appreciate any suggestions... this is quite frustrating.

Hi John, thank you for your reply. There are no error messages and the only update was to 16.80 several days ago. The problem materialized on 12-16-23 late afternoon. However, when I came to my Mac this morning everything was there and it is working correctly. I'm stumped as to what exactly happened over the last 1.5 days but everything is fine now.
