Turn Off Text Animation

Split from this thread.

Microsoft Outlook for Mac, Version 16.6 (171004) has an animation for the text cursor where it "slides" to the right (for English) when inserting a character. Seems like eye candy to me as insertion of a character is a discrete atomic event warranting an advance of the text cursor by one character width. The closest approximation I have to describe the animation behavior would be to say that it's as if every PowerPoint slide transition was suddenly forced to be a "pan right." It's rather gratuitous. (The text cursor animation seems to be present in all the Office apps in 16.6. I'd love to have a way to turn it off.

Indeed, I just upgraded and PRESTO!  The annoying smooth scrolling to the right of typed characters is gone.

Please extend a big THANK YOU to the MS team for fixing this quickly.

    Hi David,

Thanks for taking a stab at it, but this is NOT a PowerPoint animation issue.

The actual issue is the "Office animations" of text being displayed during text input in all of the products.  The text display is slowly wipe revealed as pixel by pixel (like smooth scrolling) as the text is typed.

Please do not consider this an answer to the concern being mentioned, you have given a perfectly correct but irrelevant answer.

    Thank you,

    Vincent

While the version number 16.6 (171004) MAY be Windows, it is specifically also MAC:

Please move this back to the MAC version of the product area.

NOTE WELL:  The Windows version has a way to turn off the animations as shown here:

    https://support.office.com/en-us/article/Turn-off-Office-animations-9EE5C4D2-D144-4FD2-B670-22CEF9FA025A

The MAC version does NOT have a way to disable Office animations.

The request is to add a setting to the MAC preferences for Office to disable animations since there is not an OS based registry setting for this.  The MAC Office team will need to add it to the Preferences dialogues.

This appearance of this feature without a way to turn it off is annoying, but likely just an oversight.

Again, please move this back to the MAC section.

    Thanks,

    Vincent

Looks like the "sliding" text cursor animation is gone from Outlook for Mac 16.7 (171008). I think I'm supposed to use the smiley-face feedback button to provide these comments to the support team, so I'll do that from now on.
