Cannot connect Outlook 2016 for Mac to Exchange Server

We have a newer client who has many staff with Macs. Yesterday afternoon, one person who has Office for Mac 2016 suddenly can't connect to the on-prem Exchange 2016 server. The computer that he's using is on the same LAN as this server. The Outlook status bar just goes back and forth between showing "Connecting to: [server]" and "Not Connected to: [server]".

Other info:

* OWA works fine on this computer.

* Outlook 2013 on a PC works fine.

* Mac version 10.11.4. No updates available for MS Office or OS X.

* Ex RCA Connectivity Test is Successful with Warnings.

* Server details:

  1. Autodiscover is NOT set up for this server but since Outlook 2016 for the Mac has been working I don't see why it suddenly doesn't work.
  2. This server has a single name cert for OWA, unfortunately. It is not expired.

We have build 15.21.1 on this computer.  I've tried rolling back to 15.19 but that shows the same symptoms. Really not sure what to try next. There aren't many people with Macs so I haven't been able to poll them yet.

We've found that the redirect is enabled on many of the folders where it shouldn't be. We're going to follow this tonight during our maintenance window.

    Hi David,

    Sorry to hear that person is not able to connect to your on-prem Exchange.

    Can you try the steps mentioned in this article:

    3156719 You're repeatedly prompted for authentication when using modern authentication in Outlook 2016 for Mac

    David,

    if you try the steps in the article I mentioned make sure to restart after the modification is made in the username field.

    If that still doesn't work, I have private message you with steps on getting us logs to investigate further.
