Automatic and manual backups is no longer working in OneNote!

File > Option > Save & Backup > 'Back Up All Notebooks Now' does not trigger anything :/

Backup Folder: C:\Users\*name*\OneNote

(16.07167.2040)

Any thoughts?

    I have the same issue

Clicking the "Back Up All Notebooks Now" button returns immediately with a message box

"The back up completed successfully" but only Quick Notes backs up.

**** Changing "Number of backup copies to keep" as described makes absolutely no difference.

I'm running Windows 10 and OneNote 2016 16.0.7167.2040 in Office 365 - en-us with all updates installed to date.

I have also run quick repair and online repair but neither made any difference. Since repairing I tried changing "Number of backup copies to keep" again with no change.

This is incredibly frustrating trying to get what seems like a basic feature to function!

I anyone has any other ideas I would be most grateful to hear.

I was able to fix it!

    • I changed the "Number of backup copies to keep" from 1 to 2.
    • Back Up All Notebooks Now.
    • Change back to number of copies to keep to 1.

*EDIT* bug is back and those steps does not change anything

Thank you Nick for helping. I am now on 16.0.7341.2021 (slow ring / insider) and the problem persists. I did modified the default folder and for test purpose I tried to set it up to the Desktop.

    >OneNote creates the new OneNote/Backup/16.0 folder but the only notebook that is backed-up is the Quick Notes one.

    >All the other ones, despite have been modified recently, despite the manual backup request, are not created

    >I made sure sync was completed, and would not interfere with backup

    >I tried to close and re-open a notebook, does not solve the problem

Not sure what to do :/
