OfficeBackgroundTaskHandlerRegistration flashes a window every hour

Is there a really, really good reason that the "OfficeBackgroundTaskHandlerRegistration" task (see it in Task Scheduler, Microsoft, Office) must run every hour?  This is what it says that it does: "This task initiates Office Background Task Handler, which updates relevant Office data."

I ask, because it runs officebackgroundtaskhandler.exe in such a way that it flashes a window (itself) on the screen. Only instantaneously to be sure, but it's noticeable, especially once you catch onto what's happening. You can run the task manually if you want to see it without waiting.

Why doesn't the task use one of the many tricks to hide a window from displaying?

I am having the same issue, although the window flashes so quickly I am not sure exactly what is being done.

However, I do not have OfficeBackgroundTaskHandlerLogon and

    OfficeBackgroundTaskHandlerRegistration listed in Task Scheduler.

Does anyone have any other suggestions? I would rather not join the Insider program. I cannot afford to have any issues with my SP3, since it is my only computer and needed daily at work.

    Thanks!

    No, this IS NOT Answered/Solved.

Fixing the issue has created another issue.  Yes the background task is no longer running (no more DOS window flashing up), however, after getting the fix via Windows Update, I can no longer login to my mac.com email account.  I've tried everything (remove and re-add the account, manual or automatic) and I can no longer get email from my mac.com email account as the login fails (no my user and password has not changed).

So whatever this fix was has broken something else or is preventing something else from working.

    Rob.
