Can't rename custom group or macro in Customize Ribbon

Using Outlook version 1709 Build 8528.2139 (Monthly Channel Targeted) on Windows 10 version 1709 Build 17017.1000 (all running in VMware Player).

After adding a custom group to the Home ribbon and adding a button for a macro to that group, I select either the group or the macro in the right-hand list and click the Rename button. There is no response, no dialog box for changing the name or selecting a button face.

This procedure works correctly in Word from the same Office build.

I don't know how many previous builds had this problem, as this is the first time I've added a macro to Outlook in the Insider edition.

Today when I tried to repeat the steps so I could write a reply, everything worked as expected. There haven't been any updates in the last two days, no change in build numbers or anything else. Maybe having shut down Windows and the VM to do a backup the host? I don't know... (Have you ever taken a car to a mechanic and not been able to get to make that noise again? Taken a sick kid to a doctor and suddenly they're in perfect health?)

Anyway, the steps are exactly like adding any group or button to the ribbon, except that I chose the "Macros" item in the dropdown on the left side and selected my macro in the list. Both the custom group and the macro command should enable the Rename button -- and now they do.

Sorry for the false alarm!

    Hi Jay,

    Thanks for the report. I've added groups with command buttons to the ribbon, but not macros. How are you doing this? I'd like to repro on another versions and see if it's across several versions. It'll help me get it to the right folks on the team.

    Hi Jay,

    Thanks for the repro. Yup, happens all the time. I support a group of around 12 vendors that I'll often say "did you reboot to make sure it wasn't just something funky?" I've used the car an mechanic and doctor analogies a few times too :)

    Keep us posted if it happens and again, and maybe a pattern will emerge.
