Has there been an update to the dimensions of the teams backgrounds? March 13, 2025

We are trying to upload 1920 x 1080 custom backgrounds and we are getting an error message saying invalid size. Testing other sizes, anything square 1:1 works but gets cropped in the viewer. We also tried 1280 x 800, but same gets cropped. There isn't mention of this update in any of the update logs. What is the correct size, is there a template to follow to know what gets cropped?

    Hi Inema,

I am using Version 25044.2407.3474.4587 (25044.2407.3474.4587). Yes, this happens after restarting. Multiple people in our company are having this issue, trying both jpeg and png on both Mac and PC. Our original images are 1920 x 1080 pixel. This is not working and we get the error below.

As this effects multiple users on our teams, we would need to send out a company wide cache clear, if that is the case. I will try shortly on mine and reply back.

    Thank you!

    Angie

I'm on Mac. I tried to clear cache but I am not permitted. These were the returns I got from terminal:

Classic teams : “No such file or directory”

    New teams: “Operation not permitted”

    Dear Angie,

Many thanks for the prompt response!

After thorough research, I notice similar behavior that has been reported previously, some users reported the same scenario, it could be possible a service degradation.

If you have the organization admin permission, you can also raise a service request to report this symptom to our online channel through the Microsoft 365 admin center. A support agent can further connect with you remotely, for further troubleshooting and involve the backend team where need be. Get support for Microsoft 365 for business -- Online support.

Alternatively, you may also provide report to our dedicated Teams developer team directly via in app feedback site. To do this, click on Three dot (next to your notification icon on the right top corner) -->Feedback-->Report Problem This tool allows you to describe the feature in detail and submit it directly to our product development team for review. I will do the same on my end.

I will also revert back when I get more info on this. Your patience and cooperation are much appreciated.

    Best regards

Our company is having the same problem. Users reported it this morning. Two helpdesk people tried it and got the same results, even with images that have been used before.
