Has there been an update to the dimensions of the teams backgrounds? March 13, 2025

We are trying to upload 1920 x 1080 custom backgrounds and we are getting an error message saying invalid size. Testing other sizes, anything square 1:1 works but gets cropped in the viewer. We also tried 1280 x 800, but same gets cropped. There isn't mention of this update in any of the update logs. What is the correct size, is there a template to follow to know what gets cropped?

    Thanks for this tip!

I was able to use images with a width of up to 1800px width (height of 1013px in 16:9) – because 1801px was 1px too much ;-)

And it doesn't matter whether JPG or PNG.

    Maybe only for me:

The imported background images are saved in this directory (thanks to @Martin Le Blanc in this thread):

    %userprofile%\AppData\Local\Packages\MSTeams_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\Microsoft\MSTeams

Manually copied images were ignored (but maybe I should have restarted "more than just" Teams?)

This has worked for me too. Thanks very much.

"Invalid size" is about file size, not the resolution. File has to be smaller than 250kB (used to be atleast 1MB) and then you can upload it. Maybe they are promoting Teams Premium with this change.

If that is the case...... then why do the ones I added months ago work? They are the same resolution and file size as the one I just tried to add and got the error. ALl the ones prior to this recent update are working just fine.

No - we've got Teams premium as we use Town Hall to brodcast. And it doesn't work for us either even with teams premium licences.

Users in our tenant also started encountering this problem. We will check whether the clear cache workaround works.

    UPDATE:

For our users, the clear cache workaround does not work. Even after deleting the entire

    %localappdata%\Packages\MSTeams_8wekyb3d8bbwe\ folder, the problem persists

Version we are using right now: 25044.2208.3471.2155.
