Has there been an update to the dimensions of the teams backgrounds? March 13, 2025

We are trying to upload 1920 x 1080 custom backgrounds and we are getting an error message saying invalid size. Testing other sizes, anything square 1:1 works but gets cropped in the viewer. We also tried 1280 x 800, but same gets cropped. There isn't mention of this update in any of the update logs. What is the correct size, is there a template to follow to know what gets cropped?

"Invalid size" is about file size, not the resolution. File has to be smaller than 250kB (used to be atleast 1MB) and then you can upload it. Maybe they are promoting Teams Premium with this change.

I was having this same issue; I resolved it by uninstalling my current version of Teams and then downloading and reinstalling again.

I followed DJ_984's approach and it worked. Nothing else seemed to work. Thanks for the tip!

    Version

You have Microsoft Teams version 25044.2208.3471.2155. You've got the latest version. It was last checked on 3/25/2025.

Confirming the same issue on both Mac and PC

    Mac Version: 25060.203.3471.5023

    PC Version: 25060.205.3499.6849

It is not affecting all machines/users. Some users are still able to upload images without issue, where others are getting this error - even though they are on the same version of Teams.
