Has there been an update to the dimensions of the teams backgrounds? March 13, 2025

We are trying to upload 1920 x 1080 custom backgrounds and we are getting an error message saying invalid size. Testing other sizes, anything square 1:1 works but gets cropped in the viewer. We also tried 1280 x 800, but same gets cropped. There isn't mention of this update in any of the update logs. What is the correct size, is there a template to follow to know what gets cropped?

I, and my colleagues are having issues today, trying to add and use backgrounds on Teams. I didn't know there was a widespread issue. I resized the image and it appears to work. I did a search and found this forum. So as of 4;10 p.m. Pacific on April 9, 2025, it's still an issue.

We've resolved the issues blocking the deployment of our fix and are preparing to begin the deployment. We anticipate being able to provide a timeline for the completion of the fix deployment, and impact resolution, with our next scheduled update.

We've initiated the deployment for our previously mentioned fix. We anticipate that the deployment will be complete by our next scheduled communications update, at which time we'll test to confirm that impact is remediated.

There is a workaround, which makes it possible to use larger sizes as before:

    1. Use paint's resize option to to make a 1800 x ? image and save to different folder with the same file ending
    2. Import this image to Teams
    3. Got to %localappdata%\Packages\MSTeams_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\Microsoft\MSTeams\Backgrounds\Uploads and look for the name of the generated image
    4. Rename your original image to that filename and copy via Windows Explorer
