Spellchecker in new Teams is not working

I have my Teams language set to English (United States), have enabled spell check in Teams, and restarted (force quit) Teams, yet spellcheck is not working for me at all in the new Teams.

I know on January 17, 2023, Microsoft included the following spellcheck issues in their list of known issues with Teams:

  • On Windows, spell checking is limited to English (United States) dictionaries. Until this feature is fixed, users can disable spell checking from the settings page.
  • Some spell checker suggestions for English can be inaccurate. A Windows fix is pending, with an estimated rollout date of January. Users can choose to disable spell checking from the settings page until then.

However, the issue seems to be broader than that, as I'm not just getting inaccurate suggestions, I'm not getting any suggestions at all. It is not underlining incorrect words, and it is not providing any suggestions.

I typed a message into a Teams chat with simple mistakes, then waited 15 seconds in case maybe there's a delay in spellcheck, but nothing gets highlighted as incorrect. (screenshot below)

My Teams version info:
You have Microsoft Teams version 23335.232.2637.4844(preview). You've got the latest version. It was last updated on 1/23/2024.The client version is 49/24010419113.

Clearing the cache worked for me on Windows 11 with Teams version 23335.232.2637.4844.

Close Teams, Open this directory: %userprofile%\appdata\local\Packages\MSTeams_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\Microsoft\MSTeams

Delete all files

What worked for me (your mileage may vary):

    • Quit Teams
    • Run Task Manager and stop all other occurrences of Teams ( I had 3 instances lurking!)
    • Run the App manager in settings and uninstall ALL versions - there may be several
    • Download and install a fresh copy
    • Spell check now working.

    Good luck!

Hi everyone, this is my update:

I just uninstall both versions, once I did this. I restart and then I went to download the CLASSSIC VERSION of Team.

I just install it and then the spell check was working in the classic version but the same, there is no link/connection between my outlook and Team, I mean the contacts in outlook didn't show the person status.

This morning I just find in the classic version a "button" in the top of the bar that gives me the option to switch to new teams version, Once I click to the try the new version the download started and then once finished the app just restart and the new version was launched and installed and the spell check its working a well now i can see in outlook the contact status of the persons.

Hope this helps as it somehow worked for me.

    1.- Uninstall/Delete both versions.

    2.- Restart

3.- Download Classic Version and install.

4.- Once installed Select option to try the new teams. (At this point the spell check will work but Outlook contact list wont)

5.- Let system launch new version.

6.- Cross fingers and hope it works.
