As of yesterday, the display of my teams will no longer collapse the left side panel. I've tried settings, restarting the app, and restarting the computer. It used to open after selecting one of the options next to it, like chat or teams and then it would automatically close after I selected what I wanted from those options. How do I get it to collapse again?

I was having the same issue but was able to resolve it pretty easily! Close out of Teams > Navigate to Settings > Apps > Installed Apps > Locate Microsoft Teams > Advanced Options under the 3-dots > scroll down to Reset and select it. Easier and quicker than doing an uninstall/reinstall.
Thank you this fixed the non-collapsing left sidebar.
And yes, the chats remained there with pinned people and so on. Only thing that was reset was my Teams settings and most noticeably the teams color theme and notification settings. And my second organization account was removed from the list but you could easily add it back. Small price to pay for peace of mind and stopping the hindrance to your workflow.
Sadly I had to notice the same thing as others have pointed out. The Reset fix from the Settings is only temporary. As I rebooted my computer, the Teams has again forgotten how to auto-hide the left side panel and is again taking unnecessary space from the actual chat space.
=> This is a bug. This needs fixing from Microsoft. Running the Reset every morning will get old very quickly.
I'm also finding that resetting teams only fixes this short-term. The next day it was broken again.
I found the longterm fix was to uninstall teams and then install something else.
This worked for me too! Thanks :-)
