Notifications in the "new" Teams are horrible. I keep missing activity posts, chats and phone calls because I'm not notified. I do NOT want another email report of new posts and things I missed throughout the day. I want a notification indicator on the taskbar icon, a notification indicator on the Activity/Chat/Calls icons in the left column, and I want the @ notification if I'm tagged in anything. I'm eager to use the "new" Teams but so far there are too many things are just plain terrible and useless.

+1, my new Teams notifications are not working on Mac. This is very frustrating. I made sure multiple times that everything is turned on correctly. The change in behavior happened with the "new" Teams version upgrade.
The same thing happened to me. My Teams notifications also aren't working. FYI for those who aren't aware I am using the new Microsoft Teams, not the classic one.
This tip, like a few other solutions, works for a few hours but then notifications stop. Basically, I can "fix" notifications by doing any kind of update to Teams but the notifications stop working again after the first few. At least, that has been my experience.

It this preventing you from doing step 1 & 2? If so, you can just hit Ctrl + Alt + Delete, open Task Manager, and close Microsoft Teams there, then proceed with the rest of the steps.
