We are able to create the announcement post with custom image/banner but with the latest version of teams- 1.6.00.12405 (64-bit), the feature to upload custom image/banner is no longer available.
Any workaround to bring back the feature?

Was this resolved? Is there a plan to allow users to add banners to announcements again?
I believe it's coming, but not currently available in the preview. Just checked, and definitely not included yet.

The banner option not showing up for me as well from within Teams. Not seen any pattern as to when exactly the banner option shows up, but I think I tried using Teams from within Edge and it showed up. (I generally use chrome browser) Today I wanted to do an announcement and again it didn't work, not in Teams client, not in Teams in Chrome, not in Teams in Edge browser. But then it showed up on Firefox for me. How bizarre!!!
I had the same problem on my mac, and the only thing that fixed it was clearing the cache and re-installing the app without preview version on
