We are able to create the announcement post with custom image/banner but with the latest version of teams- 1.6.00.12405 (64-bit), the feature to upload custom image/banner is no longer available.
Any workaround to bring back the feature?

This is extremely disappointing. As a teacher, the lack of creativity to make our team pages/classroom more inclusive is really frustrating. I organized all my units with different images to make it clearer for students. I hope they figure out how to restore this feature.
Such a good advertisement for our roll out of New Teams..
Come on guys sort this out - even the old version was better then this..
I hate the new big box, it doesn't look professional in any way. the inability to edit the colour combos even at the stage.. its shocking

I've found some more information regarding this feature.
Teams uses Microsoft designer to generate custom announcement images for channel announcement posts. Microsoft originally published details of the feature in Microsoft 365 roadmap item 123501 and message center notification MC680348 (10 October). They then followed up with MC687791 (6 November 2023), which contained a significant detail in that a Teams Premium license is needed to use Microsoft Designer to generate custom images.
So, if you add this all together, it's only available in US(currently) and needs Teams Premium even when it becomes more widely available.
However I can still access it through classic Teams in a web browser, in my case Firefox ... as of Jan 5th 2024

Sorry, I don't know that. You'd have to ask MS direct, or keep an eye on announcements from them.
Let's hope it's soon.
