I have it the other way around: it's ticked and it starts in Teams for me 🤷♂️

I have my Microsoft Teams set to open up automatically when my computer starts, however, whenever it starts up the 'Chat' tab is always showing first. How can I make it so that the 'Teams' tab is what's shown when it first opens up. This is ever since switching to the new version.
Thanks!

Turning off the Teams as 365 chat app seemed to make Teams close faster but when I reopened it (while the computer was on and active), it still opened in the chat tab. I don't put my computer to sleep but have had to leave it on for the past few nights because I am doing a major backup. I close the apps not in use and when I restart Teams in the morning, back to the chat we go ... Haven't yet found a solution.
Unfortunately, I didn't test it enough and after a restart, it went back to opening to Chat. Drat!
No, as a PC user, I am experiencing the same problem you are. I think Alex's reply was based off of the path for the OLD Teams. The way to access the settings is even different than described.
There's actually an open request for this feature in the Feedback Portal, but it only has a handful of votes right now. If you want to see this feature in Teams, then you should add your vote and voice your support for it in the comments!
